Northeast Missouri Electric Power Cooperative (Northeast Power) is a transmission cooperative delivering power to northeast Missouri and southeast Iowa. We are currently seeking an experienced System Engineer to join our team at the Palmyra, Missouri, location. 

What You Will Do:

This position will take the lead on planning and designing new and upgraded transmission and substation facilities, while also serving as a technical authority on NERC compliance matters. This role offers the chance to tackle complex engineering challenges, mentor the next generation of engineers and influence the future reliability of our system. In addition, you will:

  • Develop protection, control and automation schemes for transmission systems and distribution substations, and work with Operations crews to test and commission schemes in the field.
  • Conduct fault analysis and other studies to confirm proper operation of protection and automation schemes and to ensure high standards of system reliability.
  • Lead the design and project management of new substation construction and upgrade projects, ensuring high quality and timely execution.
  • Provide highly skilled engineering support for the installation, testing and maintenance of 12 kV to 345 kV substation equipment.
  • Develop detailed specifications, evaluate technical bids and guide procurement decisions.
  • Apply deep knowledge of RUS standards, NEC/NESC and other codes to ensure projects meet all safety and compliance requirements.
  • Oversee testing and inspection of substation equipment, making data-driven recommendations.
  • Lead compliance initiatives, prepare documentation for NERC audits and keep the organization ahead of evolving standards.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to drive operational excellence and long-term system planning. 

 

What We Are Looking For:

We’re looking for an engineer who embraces complex challenges, delivers with accuracy and takes pride in guiding and developing others. Ideally, you will bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical or a related engineering field.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in Missouri or Iowa.
  • At least 5 years of engineering experience in the electric utility industry, preferably with a generation and transmission cooperative.
  • Expertise in 69 kV and 161 kV substation equipment, protective relaying, metering, SCADA integration, short circuit calculations, Doble Power Factor Testing and system protection coordination.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and engineering tools such as AcSELerator and ASPEN.
  • Strong leadership, organizational and communication skills.
